Political cartoons and related papers, 1946-1980.

Original cartoons created by Scott Long, editorial cartoonist (1943-1980) for the Minneapolis Tribune newspaper. The collection also contains personal correspondence (1950s-1970s), some published books of his cartoons, scrapbooks containing copies of his cartoons, articles he wrote in professional magazines, and some photographs. There is correspondence with politicians and newspapers, and information about a trip Long took with Carl Rowan to Africa in 1956.

Carl Thomas Rowan (born August 11, 1925, Ravenscroft, Tennessee – September 23, 2000, Washington, D.C.) was a syndicated columnist, commentator, diplomat, and author received his B.A. degree from Oberlin College in 1947, and his M.A. from the University of Minnesota in 1948. During the 1950s he rose to prominence as a reporter for the Minneapolis Tribune, becoming one of the first African-Americans to report for a major daily newspaper.
